Photo: Tamara Hardman Christine DilworthI can’t remember a time when I didn’t want to make films. I had no clue how they were made, but I knew I wanted to make them. Growing up in rural County Cork, this honestly seemed unattainable. I was unaware that Ireland had, and has, a very vibrant and successful industry. I studied English and History in UCC, picked all the film modules that I possibly could, and started making films and sketches with the college’s Film Society - I was hooked. I then went on to do an MSc in Filmmaking, which is when I first learned about the existence of the Script Supervisor. I thought, naively, that the job was essentially a professional spot-the-difference, and that it might suit me given I had an affinity for spotting said differences. Since then, I’ve come to learn how much time, effort, skill, and discipline goes into the craft. I count myself lucky to have learned from some of the best and to have received their mentorship. Since beginning this journey, I have learned a great deal about the process of filmmaking and the people behind it, and I hope I can pay it forward to the next generation. The best advice I could offer anyone thinking of becoming a Script Supervisor is to be persistent, be patient with others, be kind to yourself, but be tough on everyone. _ Click here to see Christine's IMDb page. |
